I've seen some Miata arm rests that have a separate door for the cup holder. So a driver can rest their arm somewhere but still have a cupholder. Ordinarily from Miata owners I hear complaints about the placement of the holder to begin with, but since mine's an automatic, the cup never gets in the way.

Anyway, was this OEM? What year was it added, 2001? Are there aftermarket arm rests that will work similarly? Any other recommendations for arm rest mods for an automatic '99 MX-5?
